While <em>Chickasaw<\/em> doesn&#8217;t have the full &#8220;raft over a lower hull&#8221; arrangement of the original <em>Monitor<\/em> or her follow-on <em>Passaic<\/em> class ironclads, it does exist. While building the lower hull, I exerted too <!--more-->much moisture and force in getting the sheeting applied, and completely removed the curve from the lower hull. I wasn&#8217;t prepared to clamp the two hulls together in an effort to straighten the problem out, as that would have just caused more. The rest of the lower hull as been aligned and glued into place with 30 minute epoxy.\n\t\t\t\t<\/dd><\/dl><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/chickasaw031.jpg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/chickasaw031-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-1155\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt>\n\t\t\t\t<dd class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-1155'>\n\t\t\t\tI needed three frames\/ribs to rough-out the missing stern section.  Here are three pieces of styrene, held together with white glue and a paper clamp.\n\t\t\t\t<\/dd><\/dl><br style=\"clear: both\" \/><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/chickasaw032.jpg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/chickasaw032-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-1156\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt>\n\t\t\t\t<dd class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-1156'>\n\t\t\t\tAfter sanding to shape, and running under warm water to release the glue, here they are.\n\t\t\t\t<\/dd><\/dl><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/chickasaw033.jpg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/chickasaw033-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-1157\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt>\n\t\t\t\t<dd class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-1157'>\n\t\t\t\tNew ribs\/frames attached.\n\t\t\t\t<\/dd><\/dl><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/chickasaw034.jpg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/chickasaw034-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-1158\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt>\n\t\t\t\t<dd class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-1158'>\n\t\t\t\tFilled with Elmers Wood Putty.  I had thought of filling this with Apoxy Sculpt and sanding to shape, but that seemed as if it&#8217;d be too much work, and then thin styrene would sand much faster than the Sculpt.  It&#8217;d have been much more difficult to blend everything together.\n\t\t\t\t<\/dd><\/dl><br style=\"clear: both\" \/><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/chickasaw035.jpg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/chickasaw035-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-1159\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt>\n\t\t\t\t<dd class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-1159'>\n\t\t\t\tSheeted with a slab of styrene.\n\t\t\t\t<\/dd><\/dl><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/chickasaw036.jpg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/chickasaw036-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"Trimmed to size, then lots of sanding, filling, shaping.\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-1160\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt>\n\t\t\t\t<dd class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-1160'>\n\t\t\t\tTrimmed to size, then lots of sanding, filling, shaping.\n\t\t\t\t<\/dd><\/dl><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/chickasaw037.jpg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/chickasaw037-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-1149\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt>\n\t\t\t\t<dd class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-1149'>\n\t\t\t\tDuplicolor High Build Primer.  I&#8217;d never use this on a kit with any form of detail, as it&#8217;s a true automotive filler primer and would hide or soften all fine detail, but it was perfect for this.  I believe this is eight coats of primer and sanding later.
