{"id":247,"date":"2009-06-03T22:29:47","date_gmt":"2009-06-04T03:29:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/?p=247"},"modified":"2026-04-23T11:55:36","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T16:55:36","slug":"manassasbull-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/?p=247","title":{"rendered":"Manassas\/Bull Run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.devinjpoore.com\/photos\/manassas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-248\" style=\"border: 1px solid black; margin: 3px 6px;\" title=\"img_2374\" src=\"https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/img_2374-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"img_2374\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Besides visiting the NASM while in D.C. this past weekend, I also spent more than my fair share of time out at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/mana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manassas National Battlefield Park<\/a>. It&#8217;s a beautiful woodland area now smack dab in the middle of urban sprawl. I have to admit to not knowing a lot about most of the first battle of Bull Run, and I have only studied about one aspect of the Second Battle.<\/p>\n<p>My area of interest is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.historynet.com\/battle-of-brawners-farm-black-hat-brigades-baptism-of-fire.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brawner&#8217;s Farm<\/a>, where the Iron Brigade first saw combat as a unit on August 28th, 1862. The farm remained in private hands after the war and up until the late 20th century. It&#8217;s still a relatively unknown part of the park, as the National Parks Service is still restoring the site and mentions it only in passing in the park literature. It took me a while to find the place amidst terrific thunderstorms that moved through the Washington area on May 29th, but find it I did, at last, and during a 15 minute break in the weather I was able to walk the field completely alone.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.devinjpoore.com\/photos\/manassas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">photos <\/a>are random shots from the Henry Hill area of the First Bull Run area of the battlefield, and the shots of the white two-story house are the Brawner farmhouse.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Besides visiting the NASM while in D.C. this past weekend, I also spent more than my fair share of time out at the Manassas National Battlefield Park.
