{"id":434,"date":"2011-02-13T21:41:36","date_gmt":"2011-02-14T02:41:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/?p=434"},"modified":"2011-02-13T21:41:36","modified_gmt":"2011-02-14T02:41:36","slug":"viper-cockpit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/?p=434","title":{"rendered":"Viper: Cockpit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-440\" style=\"border: 1px solid black; margin: 4px 6px;\" title=\"IMG_3174\" src=\"https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/IMG_3174-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"157\" srcset=\"https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/IMG_3174-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/devinjpoore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/IMG_3174.jpg 1001w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" \/>Since the cockpit gets sealed up inside the fuselage, I have to deal with it first.\u00c2\u00a0 The photos below show the process.\u00c2\u00a0 The five major components (2 sidewalls, tub with seat, instrument panel, and display) were cut out, cleaned up, and primed.\u00c2\u00a0 The sidewalls had HUGE ejector pin marks in prominent positions, so I filled and sanded, primed, repeated as necessary.\u00c2\u00a0 I then cut in and painted the black panels by hand, something I don&#8217;t normally do, but they were just too tiny to mask.<\/p>\n<p>After that, I began to mask off the seat and the top of the instrument panel, both also to be in black.\u00c2\u00a0 The seat was tricky, and I wish it had been a separate assembly to ease the process, but you work with what you have. I started by &#8220;cutting in&#8221; the seat with extremely small 1mm tape.\u00c2\u00a0 Once that was completed I went around again using 5mm wide Tamiya masking tape and blue painters tape.\u00c2\u00a0 Once that was all set and the lines were clean where I needed them, everything else was covered with Silly Putty, and the paint sprayed.\u00c2\u00a0 The last two photos show the paint and masks after spraying, and then after all masking removed.<\/p>\n<p>Time to mask the seat: 1 hours, 20 minutes.<br \/>\nTime to paint the seat: 2 minutes.<br \/>\nTime to remove all the
